Although Bratislava is not the culinary centre
of Europe, our "Little Big City" offers lots of restaurants and
cafes to suit all tastes, from traditional Slovak restaurants
to the trendiest lounges following the latest culinary trends.
Every visitor of Bratislava should try at least one meal of the
traditional Slovak cuisine, with its peasant-culture roots.
The Slovak national meal is Bryndzove Halusky, small potato
dumplings, similar to Italian gnocchi, topped with sheep’s cheese
mixed with cream and sprinkled with bits of fried bacon or fresh
chive. The festival of Slovak cuisine is offered at the rather
pricey Slovenska restauracia (Slovak restaurant) on Hviezdoslavovo
namestie 20. Also Prasna
Basta on Zamocnicka 11 combines great Slovak dishes with appealing
interior. Highly recommended is the Perugia Hotel restaurant the
Gazdovsky
dvor on Zelena street. It features favourite Slovak and
Hungarian dishes in stylish settings and excellent service. Another
favourite place for slovak, czech and international dishes and
draught Staropramen beer is the Potrefena Husa on Safarikovo
namestie 2.
Traditional Pressburg cuisine is being served in the Presburg
Restaurant on Michalska 4.
Ethnic food is available all over the city. Italian
cuisine is being served at a number of restaurants around the
city centre. Highly recommended is the Pizza
Mizza on Tobrucka 5. Other options are the the popular Paparazzi
on Laurinska 1, Au
Cafe at the park across the Danube river on Tyrsovo nabrezie or the San
Marten on Panska 33 offering fresh home-made pasta.
For mexican food there is the Hacienda
Mexicana on Sedlarska 6 and the recently opened Taco
Rey fast food style restaurant on Palackeho 4.
Two spanish tapas restaurants have been opened in the Old
Town area of Bratislava - the Tapas
Bar on Laurinska 3 and the Rambla
on Michalska 9.
Cuban specialties are being served at the Casa
del Havana on Michalska street right at the Michael's Tower
Gate and at the Malecon
Restaurant on Namestie Ludovita Stura 4.
Japanese Sushi restaurants are on Strakova street - the
Tokyo Sushi Bar, on Gorkeho 6 - the Kikaku Sushi Bar
or the new Mercedes Cafe on Rigeleho street between the
Danube Park Inn and the Devin Hotel.
The Krishna
Restaurant located on the anchored boat of the Danubian Marina
Botel offers authentic indian dishes prepared in a tandoori
oven.
For steaks try the argentinian steakhouse on Hviezdoslavovo
namestie the El
Gaucho or the Upside
Down Steak & Whisky House on Laurinska 4.
Steaks are also being served in the italian San
Marten on Panska 33, the Primi

or the trendy Kogo
Restaurant on Hviezdoslavovo namestie 21.
If you look for a fancy restaurant for a special occasion, try
the Camouflage
on Venturska 1 and their delicious 8-course tasting menu, the
Flowers
Restaurant & Wine Bar at the same adress offering mediterranean
cuisine, the french Le
Monde on Hviezdoslavovo namestie on the corner at the Opera
House, or the Kogo
just a few steps away offering mostly mediterranean dishes with
seafood and fresh fish.
There are two pubs in the pedestrian Old Town - the Kristian
Beer Pub on Michalska 10 and the Dubliner
Irish Pub popular especially among british tourists. Locals,
especially students, favour the Slovak
Pub on the lively Obchodna street no. 62. It features a 14-room
restaurant and uses products from an organic farm.
For a fresh bagel or sandwich around the Old Town you can
try the Coffe & Co which has a few shops around the pedestrian
area or the Bagel
& Coffe shops serving fresh bagels, soups, salads, home-made
cakes and coffe. Their shops are on Obchodna 10, Sturova 13 and
a new one on the Main Square (Hlavne namestie) in the Old Town.
The Cafe
Cafe on Venturska 2 is rather a coffe and coctail bar, however,
you can have a nice fresh sandwich, salad or steak there as well.
Delicious french pancakes are offered at the creperie on Laurinska
11 called Chez
Amelie. The entrance is in the courtyard.
Walking the streets of the Bratislava Old Town you will find plenty
of cafes usually with a nice terrace set up during summer.
To experience the traditional Viennese coffee and home made cakes
visit the traditional Cafe Mayer on the Main Square.
Having the most delicious chocolate is a must at the noteless
little Cokoladovna
